Kota Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL), a fully-owned subsidiary of CESC Limited, commenced Electricity Distribution Operation in Kota, Rajasthan, on 1st September, 2016, as a Distribution Franchisee of Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (JVVNL).

Among several other distribution companies, CESC was awarded this franchisee on the basis of competitive bidding. CESC is India's first fully integrated electrical utility company, generating and distributing power in Kolkata and Howrah since 1897. With a generation capacity of 1125 MW and more than 20,000 circuit kilometres of transmission and distribution network, CESC supplies electricity to almost 3 million High Tension and Low Tension consumers across an area of 567 square kilometres. The company has started a pan India presence by expanding through its subsidiaries.

The Kota Distribution Franchisee is spread over 150 square kilometres and has 1.76 lakh registered consumers (FY 2014-15). The consumer base grew 7% in FY 2014-15, as compared to the previous year. The number of HT consumers stands at 314.

From the very beginning the outage management of KEDL is being done from the Centralised Command Station located at Borkhera Sub Station in Kota.

Preventive maintenance of HT and LT Network is one of the major focus areas of KEDL and the same is being carried-out through a focused time bound program.

To ensure that the consumers of Kota (Division 1&2) do not face any inconvenience in docketing complaints, a state-of-the-art New Call Centre with 60 toll-free incoming lines has become operational. The Consumers now have the option of docketing their Bill Related Complaints also at this New Call Centre.

To provide best-in-class services to the Consumers of Kota, KEDL will launch multi-pronged initiatives to develop and modernise the City's Distribution System and provide immediate Connections against New Requisitions.

To understand the expectations of the Consumers of Kota and to realise the shortcomings of the existing system, a perception survey has been undertaken and based on the findings of this survey, future strategies of KEDL will be realigned.
